OUTREACH EVENTS
Living Grace's Mission statement is "A worshipping community of the ELCA focused on making known God's love and grace by: welcoming everyone, sharing the story of Jesus, growing in our faith, and serving beyond ourselves."
We are reaching out with understanding and compassion to serve people; it is a part of who we are as a faith community. We strive to accomplish this through on-going support of local organizations, outreach activities, and partner relationships. Below are some of the ways we reach out to the Hawley community.
In the past year we have hosted a number of outreach events, serving beyond ourselves. These include:
- Backpacks for Hunger Breakfast
- Annual Chilies for Children Cook-Off
- Adopting a family for Christmas
- 9/11 Breakfast to Honor and Thank our Local Emergency and Military Personnel
REACH (Rural Enrichment & Counseling Headquarters): REACH is a multi-agency human service center serving primarily individuals and families in rural Clay, Becker and Norman counties. Its mission is “to enrich the quality of life for rural residents by providing affordable human services through collaboration with others." Living Grace supports the work of REACH through special offerings and through individuals who volunteer at REACH Reusables (Thrift Store) and the food pantry.
Rebuilding Together: Rebuilding Together’s mission it to bring volunteers and communities together to improve the homes and lives of homeowners in need by offering home repair and renovation services, free of charge, to low-income families with an emphasis on helping the elderly, people with disabilities and Veterans. Our Men’s Group has previously partnered with Rebuilding Together in Hawley, helping with home renovations of a woman in need.
Community Garden: In 2011 Living Grace sponsored the Hawley Community Garden and assisted community gardeners in tilling, planting, and cultivating. On Rogation Sunday, a Community Garden "Seed Offering" of vegetable seeds was received and blessed at Living Grace as well as donated onions, potatoes, tomatoes, peppers, cabbage, broccoli, cauliflower and bright red geranium plants from local flower and garden shops. The bright red geraniums created a welcoming garden border throughout the summer. All community residents were welcome to assist with the gardening tasks and harvest vegetables as they became available or were needed.
